First Experience with HERA Beams
نویسنده
چکیده
HERA is a new collider, delivering luminosity to the users since June ’92 at DESY in Hamburg. 26.7 GeV electrons collide with 820 GeV protons in two experimental areas, the south hall (experiment Zeus) and the north hall (experiment H1), thereby interacting at a center-of-mass energy of ~ —300 GeV. A complex layout of various accelerators including the old PETRA ring is used to feed electrons and protons into the new HERA tunnel (circumference 6.336 km). While the electron ring is equipped with conventional magnets, the proton ring’s dipole and quadruple magnets are superconducting.

Structure Functions and Extraction of Pdfs at Hera
s = 300 GeV in 1994-1997 and 319 GeV from 1998. During the HERA II period, the lepton beams were longitudinally polarised. The most recent results on neutral current (NC) and charge current (CC) DIS cross sections from HERA II data are presented. Results on Parton Density Functions (PDFs) and the strong coupling αs extracted from HERA I data are discussed. Accounting for the correlation of elec...
متن کاملContact Interactions with Polarized Beams at HERA
The discovery potential of the HERA collider, with and without polarized beams, for electron-quark contact interactions in neutral current scattering is reviewed. The measurement of spin asymmetries in the polarized case could give crucial information on the chiral structure of new interactions.
متن کاملHeavy Flavour Physics at Hera { a Survey
At the HERA collider at DESY, high energy electron and positron beams interact with proton beams. A review is presented of the variety of ways in which these collisions produce final states containing charm and beauty quarks.
متن کاملSingle scalar top production with polarized beams in ep collisions at HERA
From the point of view of the R-parity breaking supersymmetric model, we propose a scalar top (stop) search with longitudinally polarized electron (e−L ) and positron (e+R) beams which will soon be available at the upgraded HERA. Fully polarized e or e beams could produce the stop two times as much as unpolarized beams, while they increase background events due to the process of the standard mo...
متن کاملv 1 2 1 N ov 1 99 7 A study on ∆ u and ∆ d in charged current events using polarized beams at HERA
Charged current events are studied at HERA with polarized beams, using a Monte Carlo event generator and taking into account detector smearing effects. The observed asymmetries are used to study the extraction of the polarized structure function g5 and the polarized parton distributions ∆u and ∆d in the proton.
